Witches & Wellness: Casting a Spell on Your Self-Care Routine

The month of October is filled with ghosts, ghouls, skeletons, and monsters. But do you know what’s really scary? Not taking care of yourself! The changing of seasons provides the perfect time to reflect upon your routine, and implement self-care practices that can be done in the cool fall weather.

We all have an inner witch. She’s a badass, she knows what she wants, she loves herself, and most importantly, she deserves to be nurtured. While we may not be fluent in casting spells or brewing up potions in a cauldron, we can rejuvenate our mind and spirit through self-care (and pretend we’re wild witches at the same time).

Here are some spook-tacular wellness spells, self-love rituals, and seasonal self-care tips that will help you take a break from the things that stress you out.

Put a spell on YOU

We don’t exactly need to levitate, become invisible, or fly across the night sky on a broomstick — but we do need to relax. Try putting a spell on yourself that can provide you with a few minutes of clarity so that you can approach all aspects of your life with a clear mind. So, what type of spell will bring you some peace and quiet? A meditation spell!

Meditating every day can bring calmness to your mind, body, and soul. And the type of meditation that works for you, might not work for somebody else. Finding the form of meditation that grounds you takes some trial and error.

You can meditate sitting on the floor in silence, doing a few simple yoga poses to music, go into nature and take deep breaths surrounded by trees, or toss a newt and three hares into a boiling cauldron at midnight.

Learn some magical incantations

You might be looking for an incantation that will make your hair look good every single day, or an incantation that will make you win the lottery — well, we don’t have either of those. But we do have some that can make you feel more confident and powerful. Magical incantations, otherwise known as positive affirmations, are an important form of self-care and can help you overcome self-doubt and challenges. You should pick one or two that resonate with you, and repeat them several times a day. Take your magic a step further by writing the incantations out on a piece of paper or painting them on a canvas and displaying them in your home.

Here are a few of our favorite:

  • I am worthy, I am loved, and I am exactly where I need to be.
  • I am powerful and I believe in myself.
  • I am proud of myself and am confident in my abilities.
  • I love my body exactly how it is.
  • It’s okay to ask for what I want, even if I don’t always get it.

Reinvigorate your soul with a potions and brews

Witches love holistic wellness, addressing the emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical components of your health. Many folks who embrace the holistic approach use essential oils and herbal remedies for stress relief and overall wellness. Think about investing in an essential oil diffuser — the fall season is the best time to hone in on your home’s ambiance and vibe. Oils like lavender, chamomile, and orange can promote stress relief and better sleep.

Brews can also be something you incorporate into your daily routine — think kombucha, herbal tea, and superfood smoothies…not beer. There are plenty of fall-centric smoothie recipes just waiting to be discovered online.

Here’s one of our favorite magical smoothies that can make your skin glow:

1 cup frozen sweet potato, previously steamed

1/2 cup frozen cauliflower florets

1 cup vanilla almond milk

1 tablespoon of almond butter

1 scoop of vanilla protein powder

2 tablespoons of honey

a pinch of sea salt

Host a party for your coven

Having fun and spending time with your friends can also be seen as self-care, especially if you’d consider yourself to be an extrovert. Host a Gal-o-ween party or a spooky movie night with your pals, but whatever you do, DO NOT bring out a ouija board!
