Girl, I Got Issues Founder: Kay Nicole

The creator of Girl I Got Issues AKA GIGI, Kay Nicole, considers herself to be a professional bestie. Though she is a trained and certified expert, she is highly relatable, having the ability to form a connection with women with all types of issues.

Girl I Got Issues is more than a life coaching organization. The plan is to form a circle of women who are willing to share their issues causing a sort of ripple effect. A circle of women feeling free and open to share in order to save other women from feeling caged in with their issues, thinking they’re alone.

What do you see when you look in the mirror?

I see a beautiful Black Queen that was created in God’s image.

What do you do for a living?

I talk! I am the founder of Girl I Got Issues (GIGI), which is an organization created specifically for girl talk. GIGI is a safe space for black women to put their issues on the table for discussion. I am a conversationalist. My God-given gift is my ability to connect with people. I use my gift to help black women discover their super power, whatever it may be. I am a coach, a speaker, and a soon-to-be author. Through deep conversation, things are often unveiled that could be keeping us from moving towards our life goals. It is my job to help get pass those things and moving forward.

How do you think self-love plays a role in success?

A woman who loves herself is a confidence woman. She knows that she is worthy and deserving of the best. A woman who loves herself also finds is easy to love others. In that love for others, she can have a positive impact on the world around her.

How do you think we, as women, can work together to lift each other?

We can lift each other by first seeing each other as sisters. We should learn to collaborate with our sisters and not just try to compete. We can lift each other up through words of encouragement. Letting each other know that we have sisters in our corners rooting for us to win.

Have you had any adversities that you’ve had to overcome in order to achieve success?

I would always hear experienced entrepreneurs say that some people will not support your business until they see others supporting or buying whatever you are selling. I have found that to be true. At times, I spoke about my business and would be discredited because I do not have a certain amount of social media followers. Or asking people to help with my first event and being turned down because I had no previous successful events. Believing in myself and knowing that I am working to do good for my people outweighs the no’s that I receive. I just keep moving! Not everyone will see or understand your vision. You have to be ok with that.

What has been your greatest accomplishment to date?

Forming the LLC for GIGI and getting started with my business has been my greatest accomplishment so far. My two weaknesses are overanalyzing and procrastination. Having said that, I have a history of overthinking to the point of doing nothing at all. If there is no deadline involved and I can get it done whenever I want, I will constantly wait for “the perfect time”. The truth is, there is no perfect time! Starting GIGI was my big “just do it already!” moment. I knew the longer I overanalyzed and procrastinated, the longer I was making people wait for what I was called to do.

What inspires you to keep going?

Hearing my sisters say that they are happy to have a safe space to speak about their issues without fear of judgement inspires me. Seeing the connections be made among sisters at an event brings joy to my heart. Knowing that there is a need for this type of platform keeps me going.
