Quick Picks for a Mood Boost: 10 Fun Activities to Instantly Elevate Your Day

- Advertisement -spot_imgspot_img

It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life — it happens to all of us. Getting caught up in the daily grind can help us achieve our long-term goals, but it leaves little time for play. If you’re spending all your time working, you’re bound to have some days where you just feel “blah”. Life is simply too short to go to bed on a bad note, which is why you should always boost your mood when you’re feeling down.

The good news is that a quick mood-boost doesn’t require a lot of energy — it just requires the right mindset. Your mental health should always be top-of-mind, so here are 10 fun activities that can enhance your well-being on days when you’re in a funk:

Discover a new hobby

Remember, it’s perfectly normal to have off days — everyone does! The next time you’re feeling down provides the ideal opportunity for you to try something you’ve been wanting to try. Are you wanting to get into baking? Are you eager to test your creative abilities through painting? Have you been meaning to volunteer at the nearby dog shelter? Set some time aside and finally follow through with a new hobby.

Get outside

Spending time in nature is linked to reduced stress and improved mood, so what are you waiting for, sis?! Additionally, hanging out outside can sharpen your cognition and reduce your risk of developing a psychiatric disorder. The fresh air, and the sounds and sights of nature will bring you just the mood boost you’re looking for.

Listening to an uplifting playlist

Studies have shown that listening to your favorite uplifting songs can reduce anxiety and boost happiness. Make a playlist chock full of the catchiest Beyonce, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift hits to listen to next time you’re needing a bit of joy!

Text or call a friend

Sometimes all you need is a chuckle with a friend to bring you instant happiness. Whether you chat to them over the phone or meet-up for a Happy Hour cocktail, you’ll feel better in a jiffy.

Take a moment to meditate

Meditation is a great activity to boost your mood, especially on days where you’re feeling physically exhausted or burnt out. All you have to do is find a comfortable spot to sit, close your eyes, and breathe peace and joy into your heart.

Engage in a short burst of exercise

Physical activity releases feel-good chemicals, otherwise known as endorphins, in the brain. Even a short burst of exercise can bring you the sought after benefits: improved mood and memory, better sleep, decreased stress, and more. If you’re low on time, try a 10-minute cardio HIIT workout on YouTube. If you’ve got a couple of free hours, drop by the local spin joint for a high-energy, uplifting cycling class.

Watching a funny video

Next time you see a funny video on TikTok, be sure to save it for a quick pick-me-up in the future. Silly animal videos always hit the spot after a tough review at work or a long, exhausting day.

Treat yourself

We should clarify…treat yourself to something small and inexpensive, like your favorite dessert or beverage. It’s easy to justify a big shopping spree when you’re down in the dumps, but you’ll regret it as soon as your monthly bank statement lands in your email inbox.

Spend time with a pet

Pets act as a constant in your ever-changing life, especially on those days where it feels like your world has been turned upside down. Have a cuddle session with your cat or take your dog to the park for fetch as these activities are the most cheerful form of self-improvement.

Make a gratitude list

No matter how horrible your day was, there are tons of things you should feel grateful for. Jotting down what you’re grateful for will help you focus on the good other than the bad.
