Showing up for and honoring yourself is basically another way of loving yourself — and there’s a lot to love! Being your own biggest fan and supporter is an uncomplicated way to practice self-love. This very specific type of love is empowering and can motivate positive behavior, which will trickle into every aspect of your life.
Showing up for yourself requires much more than rolling out of bed every morning and going through your daily motions. Life can get rather hectic, making it challenging to prioritize your mental and physical health. But committing to your own desires and goals, instead of anxiously trying to please everyone around you, will work wonders.
It’s important to note that taking a long, hot shower every once in a while doesn’t quite count as showing up for yourself. Think prioritizing your emotional, mental, and physical needs, which will in turn give you the energy needed to achieve your goals.
Keep reading to learn a few of our favorite ways you can prioritize self-love while honoring your authentic self.
Commit to your passions
Whatever they are, committing to your passions will make you happy. If you’re unable to merge your passions with your professional life, that’s totally okay. Be sure to carve out time every week for your passion projects or hobbies. For example, you might have an old car you’ve been fixing up in the garage, a portrait you’ve been painting, or a new recipe you’ve been dying to try. Want to feel as if you’ve “never worked a day in your life”? Starting a company centered around one of your passions will make you feel excited about your career.
Move towards your dreams every day
Having big dreams is healthy, but what isn’t healthy is dreaming without taking any actionable steps to achieve them. Self-accountability is crucial when it comes to taking steps towards conquering your goals! No matter the size or significance of the step, you’ll never regret taking time for your dreams.

Avoid burnout
It can be easy to overwork yourself when you’re really invested in your company or a project. However, this can lead to lack of sleep and burnout, two things that are difficult to bounce back from! Even during the busiest weeks, find an hour or two to meditate, practice yoga, kick-back with a face mask on, or go for a forest walk — “forest bathing” is linked to lower blood pressure and reduced cortisol levels. Self-care is a big factor in reducing the risk of burnout.
Practice gratitude
Have you ever looked at someone else’s life and felt jealous? We’ve all been there. This is why it’s important to take the time to reflect on all the good things and supportive relationships you have in your life. Start a gratitude journal and list three things you are grateful for every morning before work. Noticing and appreciating these positives increases your body’s happy hormones while increasing compassion and empathy.
Scrap negative language
Replace any negative language that you use towards yourself with positive, kinder language. You’re a successful queen, sis! Be kind to yourself instead of being your own toughest critic and fixating on your flaws — we all have them. A negative internal dialogue can be self-destructive.
Practicing supportive and encouraging self-talk can make a big difference in how you show up for others, and most importantly, yourself.
