L.Renee Nix is a teacher, coach, Amazon Best-Selling Author, and mentor. She brings her authentic flare to educating, inspiring, motivating, and coaching the wonderful people she encounters in life. Gloria recently sat down with L.Renee to talk about Love and Relationships in an episode of Self Love Conversations. L.Renee is a firecracker of a woman- an empowering force with so much wisdom on love!

L.Renee says she’s not anybody special. She was just like any other average girl who’s been dreaming of love. However, she eventually found that her social life and career were doing great, but she was failing at love. The first time she shared her heartbreak and story was in ‘Delayed But Not Denied’, a book she was given the opportunity to co-author.

L.Renee started her journey with her love for herself. She was so busy trying to fall in love with someone else, and mold them into something she wanted them to be, she had never stopped to consider that she never had that full love for herself before she went out in search of it in others.

“I tried to make myself skinny, I tried loving myself as a big girl, I tried to be the bad girl, I tried To be the good girl, I tried to be the fixer, I tried to be the helper… I tried to do all these things because I thought This is what was going to keep a man.”

“Once I started changing my dating habits, changing my mentality, and getting healed, I began to change my mentality about love and relationships”, L.Renee says. “Here I am today, trying to help Singles avoid the time-wasting relationships.”

The truth is, we may not have a lot of time. Busy women, professional women- we don’t have a lot of time. So why are we wasting it when it comes to love and relationships?

L.Renee shared some gems about navigating love and relationships, and preparing for lasting love…

First things first…

  • Be Intentional

This one is especially for the Boss Babes and career women, but it applies to every single person. We’re intentional about our jobs, our careers, and even when booking flight tickets! We research, read reviews, shop around and we do our homework. So why don’t we do the same when it comes to love? “Don’t continue doing the same things expecting different results” Renee says. It’s ok to be intentional about what you’re looking for.

  • Adjust Your Expectations To A Realistic Person

We’re not necessarily telling you to lower your expectations or change what you want, but to adjust your approach to what you’re looking for. Loosen up those rigid criteria you’ve set, and realize that you’re dealing with human beings, not robots. It’s a balancing act of standing by what you want and being realistic in your expectations.

  • Time is important.

Don’t rush into things ya’ll. Take your time to understand a person, and to understand if this relationship is for you. If you’re married, and there are hard times, take the time to truly work things out. Don’t rush into something just for the sake of being in a relationship or being married, and don’t rush to write someone off either. Take a little time to breathe and don’t make quick decisions. Take the time to decide and understand what YOU truly want.

  • Consistency is key.

Whether you are single, in a relationship, or married, think about how consistently they are able to meet your needs, and how consistently you are able to meet their needs. L.Renee puts it like this, “How can we keep and honor the commitment consistently without feeling like ‘I’m ready to murder you’? If you can’t do that, that’s when you need the time to make your exit strategy”.

  • Now You Need Space

Once you have decided that a person is right for you, and you’re committing to this person, you need space to recreate what love means to you now. This is not the ‘puppy dog love’ or the love we see on Love and Hip Hop, or the love we see on social media, but the kind of love we need today. We need to recreate and explore what love means to us right now, and what that looks like in the actions and behavior we need.

L.Renee believes that everyone has a powerful story and a purpose for that story in the world, but often the trials of life derail our dreams. Renee has been there, and she’s thankful that she’s lived through it. It is her purpose in life to help as many people that need encouragement, support, and practical tools to apply to their everyday lives.
