Creating Meaningful Relationships Through Sisterhood

We know you can do it on your own, but the journey is much more enjoyable with the support of others. Whether you’re starting your own business, leaving your job to travel indefinitely, or starting over in a new state, finding a sisterhood that can be there for you when times get tough will make all the difference.

For many ladies, the transition from girlhood to womanhood can be extremely difficult. This requires maturing in your self-confidence, forming bonds with other women, and navigating the nights and lows of platonic and romantic relationships. All the trials and tribulations that come with growing into yourself make it clear which connections were worth nurturing and which were no longer serving you. Because coworkers and romantic partners often come and go, it’s your sisterhood that is there for the long haul — these relationships that are indispensable.

Supportive sisterhoods can be hard to come by. Many women are able to form a circle with their friends from college, whereas others take a less traditional approach and go online. No matter how you find the ladies in your sisterhood, you’ll be forging authentic connections and nurturing supportive bonds with fellow women.

Beyond support, why is sisterhood important?

It’s empowering. A woman must know, honor, and love herself before she can do the same for one of her sisters. Positive energy attracts positive energy, and by surrounding yourself with likeminded ladies, you’ll find yourself landing new opportunities that can lead to personal growth. When females are empowered, the whole community will be empowered, which means that there’s no such thing as community empowerment without the empowerment of women.

When you’re feeling empowered among other empowered ladies, there’s nothing you can’t do — you’re Superwoman. You’ll quickly notice that through shared resources, advice, and support, you’re making leaps towards your dreams, not just baby steps. But remember, any step, no matter the size, is a positive thing.

Sisterhood also makes you feel seen, heard, and valued. We live in a male-dominated society, which means it’s time for women to take their power back. To “succeed” within society, we are told that we need to be “feminine”, leading with love, compassion, and emotion. Sometimes it feels as if it’s a man’s world, and we’re just living in it (insert eye roll).

Women undoubtedly have it hard, and in a male-dominated culture, it feels as if we can never really win. It often feels like we are starting out with a handicap that’s impossible to make up for, despite pouring our blood, sweat, and tears into everything we do. Even if we put our emotion and compassion on the back burner, it feels like we may never live up to society’s expectations because we’re just women.

Sisterhood is much more than ladies you can rehash your weekend adventures with — it means meaningful, deep connections. Even if you’d consider yourself to be an introvert, we’re all social animals and thrive when we feel like we belong within a group of people. Women are able to create lasting, deep emotional connections through sisterhood. These connections can provide emotional support when you’re facing challenges in your professional life or struggling in your personal life. When you’re part of a community, you’ll be heard, seen, and most importantly: understood.

Further than emotional support, sisterhood is there to help you achieve your dreams. For example, if you’re thinking of launching your own small business and need a group of people to survey about your product or service, look no further! There’s also a chance that there’s several sisters who are already established in the field you’re entering. As a result, they will be able to give you advice and guidance that will be invaluable for years to come.

Your sisterhood will be keen to help you, just like how you’d be eager to help them. These women are there to support you, inspire you, and motivate you, especially on days when you’re feeling overwhelmed or discouraged.

When you succeed, you’ll have sisters to celebrate with. There is something so special about having a group of supportive, strong women to share your successes with. And when you fail, which is a perfectly normal part of your journey, you’ll have sisters to cheer you up and encourage you to try again.

You’ll definitely find that you’ll go further in your career and personal life when you’re surrounded by a circle of other fierce females.
